VETUS Marine Engines – Now HVO Approved
In line with sustainable boating efforts, VETUS has officially approved its D-LINE and M-LINE engines for use with HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) – a low-carbon renewable diesel alternative. These engines can operate on 100% HVO (EN15940) or any blend with standard diesel (EN590) without requiring any modifications.
What is HVO?
HVO is a renewable diesel fuel derived from waste oils like used cooking oil or tallow. It contains low sulphur and aromatics, burns cleaner than traditional diesel, and is resistant to bacterial growth due to high oxidation stability.
Benefits of HVO Fuel
Reduces CO₂ and other emissions by up to 90%
Compatible with existing fuel systems – no changes needed
Lower soot and particulate emissions
Safe for all certified VETUS M- and D-line engines
Approved Engine Models:
- M2.13 – 8.8 kW (12 hp)
- M2.18 – 11.8 kW (16 hp)
- M3.29 – 20 kW (27 hp)
- M4.35 – 24.3 kW (33 hp)
- M4.45 – 30.9 kW (42 hp)
- M4.56 – 38.3 kW (52 hp)
- VD4.120 – 90 kW (122 hp)
- VD4.140 – 103 kW (140 hp)
- VD6.170 – 125 kW (170 hp)
- VD6.210 – 155 kW (210 hp)
Note: Using blends with more than 30% HVO may slightly affect performance and fuel consumption due to differences in density and energy content.
